I really loved Princess Academy – it was an all around sweet and refreshing tale. So I was pretty excited to see what Hale would bring to the table with a sequel. And while I liked this book, I was a little disappointed. I still thought the plot was interesting, and I loved seeing more of the story unfold. But something felt slightly amiss. Not sure what, but I didn’t like it as much as other Shannon Hale books. I thought it was interesting to see how Miri reacted to the revolution and I was especially intrigued to see how she handled her relationship with Peder. And I will freely admit it, I love Peder. Who wouldn't?! He’s so thoughtful and sweet.

There were parts in the story that left me frustrated. And well, yeah, I’ll just leave it at that (don't want spoilers.) But eventually the ending solved many of the problems, though it did feel like a letdown in some aspects. I did like seeing the bustling city and I wished that we could have had more insight into that area. I liked Miri’s character, but I was also ready for more of an adventure. I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. I’m still a huge fan of Shannon Hale and I’ll continue to read any books she publishes. Fans of the first Princess Academy book will not be disappointed.
