I was really excited to pick up this book from the ALA conference because it was one of the few high fantasy books being offered and I love fantasy. Plus it had that gorgeous cover and was about DRAGONS. Um, who wouldn’t love that? The beginning of the story was pretty good. I was really loving the first few pages. But then my momentum died down. And while it was a story unlike anything I had ever read before, I didn’t like it as much as I anticipated. It surprised me how many other people love it and Seraphina won several awards.

I’m not sure why, but the writing/plot/characters/setting didn’t mesh with me. The concept was unique and I liked that aspect, but I still didn’t really like it. I thought the romance was a little bizarre too. I didn’t see how things were going to work out and I wasn’t a fan of the way things were resolved. I wished things had turned out differently. But I think my overall dismissal of this book was mainly me not being such a big fan of the story. It didn’t “wow” me. I didn’t find myself sinking into the story as much as I thought I would and even though there were dragon elements and fantasy throughout the story, I wasn’t for me. I wanted so much to be a fan of this book and I wasn’t. So that was a little disappointing.
