Review #1504 The Year of the Book by Andrea Cheng

Review: #1504
Book: The Year of the Book
Author: Andrea Cheng
Rating: two stars (out of four)
Release date: May 22, 2012
Pages: 160
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Books for Children
Source: ALA 2012

Another short book I picked up from ALA. I was intrigued by the cover and the idea of a young girl going beyond her comfort zone to find friends, but this book was a letdown. I did, however, love the many references throughout the story to famous books. I wanted more depth with the characters and the story. It fell flat because it was short and only lightly touched on things. I wanted the author to spend more time examining the relationships. I can see shy people or people who are not good at making friends finding some comfort and solace in this book, but I would be hard-pressed to recommend it.
