Review #1407 Enchanted by Alethia Kontis
Enchanted by Alethia Kontis
Rating: two stars (out of four)
I thought this book was okay. One thing that did bother me was the main character’s voice. She felt immature and didn’t seem to have a firm grasp on reality. I was also confused by her siblings and their crazy names and backgrounds. I had a hard time keeping track of which story belonged to which sister and which siblings were still alive or estranged. The relationship between the princess and the frog was also bizarre. It didn’t quite add up. She seemed awfully fond of the frog after such a short amount of time. I didn't see how she had become so attached or why she was distraught when she wasn't with him. I think my biggest complaints were the character portrayals and personalities – they didn't feel fleshed out. I wanted more interaction and more depth so the people wouldn't feel superficial. After I finished this book I saw on Goodreads that a lot of people had been giving it some pretty negative reviews and that took me a little by surprise. I didn’t think it deserved so much backlash, but I did agree with most of the faults other reviewers pointed out. I still found the story somewhat enjoyable, though I probably wouldn't recommend.
