Review #1402 Chloe and the Lion by Mac Barnett
Chloe and the Lion by Mac Barnett, illustrated by Adam Rex
Rating: two stars (out of four)
I really liked the concept of breaking the third wall and having the author and illustrator talk to the readers. I enjoyed the different types of artwork in the story, especially the clamations characters, the paper stage, and the regular animations too. Those different aspects really helped ground the story and kept it from being too all-over-the-place. Parts of the story did seem to snag a little when things got super crazy. I did appreciate that "Mac" couldn't draw to save his life, er, story. The second half of the book didn't seem as logical - Chloe seemed to take a round about way in getting things done. I think that some children will find this story wickedly funny while others will find it confusing. It will just matter on your particular taste. I found it slightly amusing, but I'm not sure I'll need to read it again.
