Review #1400 Blackout by John Rocco
Blackout by John Rocco
Rating: two stars (out of four)
I really liked the message of this story: sometimes we need to take a break from technology and spend time with people. It's a good reminder that we shouldn't get so caught up in our lives we forget to appreciate what's right in front of us. It also reminded me of times where I've been in a blackout and I got to hang out with family/friends and unplug from technology. This was a sweet reminder and I was glad to see the family was making the most of their time and the rest of the people in the neighborhood were getting along too. It was a cool story, but not something I'd read over again. I was a little surprised to see that it won the Caldecott Honor. I liked the illustrations and thought they were fun, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to recommend.
