Book Review #996
Belle Prater's Boy by Ruth White
Rating: four stars (out of four)

The language and writing of this story was what pulled me in. I loved how the characters talked and the way the author wove her sentences to tell a tale rich filled with southern culture. The characters were likable and I especially wanted to take Woodrow home. I fell in love with this boy and loved seeing how he helped Gypsy understand things in life and taught her a lesson by how he treated others.

The story was intriguing and I wanted to see how things would turn out. There were even a couple of surprises at the ending that I didn't see coming. Even though this story was simplistic and didn't have much of a plot the real enjoyment came through the way it was told and how it's laid-back style felt like an afternoon spent on the back porch sipping a glass of ice-filled lemonade. I'd totally recommend. It is one of my new favorites.
