Book Review #974
Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson
Rating: three stars (out of four)
It's weird how you've seen a book for so long but never got around to reading it and you've already made an assumption in your mind about what it's like based on the cover you've seen repeatedly. That's what I've been doing with this book. Only I was completely wrong in my preconceived notions.
This book was nothing like what I had pictured in my head and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. It's interesting how a book can leave you muddling through your thoughts as soon as you've finished reading it. Through the entire course of this story I found myself drawn to the characters and their little island. There were parts of the book that were poignant or funny, but as soon as I finished reading I realized this was not a happy book, it had never occurred to me. It had elements of sadness traced throughout the entire story and it was only looking back on all the events that I finally realized that. This was book intriguing and I still don't know quite how I feel about it, even though I'd probably have to say that I liked it a lot. I'd recommend, it isn't a quick beach read but something you need to think about after you've finished it.
