Book Review #973
Joey Pigza Loses Control by Jack Gantos
Rating: zero stars (out of four)

I just didn't see the point of this book. I kept reading because I thought it would get better and there would be some grand truth at the end, but I have no clue why this got a Newbery Honor. The main character wasn't someone I liked and his thoughts were annoying and jarring. I also didn't like the relationship between his dad and I wondered how this book could end happily with all the crazy stuff that was going on. The ending was a disappointment and I felt like I had just wasted my time reading this entire book. I would not recommend.

  1. Oooh, if you thought this one was bad, I'm REALLY glad you didn't read 3 or 4. I read the first two and 'enjoyed' them. Didn't love or hate them, just kind of felt ambivalent. BUT the third and fourth are HORRIBLE! The actions of the parents are deplorable and although Joey does grow a bit, the adults in the book are atrocious, and I wanted to smack EVERYONE. Sigh...
