Book Review #892
Claudette Colvin by Phillip Hoose
Rating: three stars (out of four)
Offering a different perspective on the civil rights movement and focusing on a figure seemingly forgot in the history records this book featured a striking character who stood up for her beliefs. I liked how the author wove in Claudette's own personal narrative with her portrayal of the story and informative pieces of history. By adding newspaper clippings and photographs the book felt realistic and was still interesting enough to read in one sitting.
