Book Review #602
Abel's Island by William Steig
Rating: two stars (out of four)

When I was reading the first couple pages of this book, I was really wondering where it was going.  But the plot moved quickly enough and soon the title of the book matched what I was reading.  I rather liked the illustrations that were littered throughout the book, they added elements of amusement and poignancy to the story.  It kind of had a Robinson Crusoe feel to the book, but with animals instead of people.  I enjoyed reading the story.  It was a little disappointing at the very end, but I was still happy for the characters.  I'd probably recommend to young readers who liked animal characters and tales of stranded people left to survive on islands.
