Book Review #526
The Underneath by Kathi Appelt, illustrated by David Small
Rating: four stars (out of four)

Amazing!  This was my first thought when I finished this book.  I had a grin spread across my face and I was almost jumping for joy.  I loved this book That Much!  I loved the language of this novel, the words that were featured and used were so descriptive and thoughtful.  Several times while reading this book I would marvel at a sentence or paragraph and wonder how the author had ever contrived such lovely wording.  The plot was unpredictable, suspenseful, sweet, and endearing.  I fell in love with the characters and was on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next.  The ending almost gave me a heart attack.  The author ended a chapter on such a thrilling and horrifying thought that I might have gasped out loud.  But don't worry - everything worked out in the end.  There were elements of joy and sadness mingled throughout this story.  I also enjoyed the illustrations, they were great.  If you have not read this book, I insist that you check it out at your earliest convenience!  I'd totally recommend.
